Will we get solo movies for Mothra and Rodan if the MonsterVerse continues?

I’d say that out of all the monsters that have shown up in the MonsterVerse so far, Mothra is the most likely to get a solo film since she has some name recognition outside the Godzilla fandom, though I wouldn’t say she’s a household name. If you were to show a causal monster movie fan a clip of Godzilla fighting Mothra from the original Godzilla vs Mothra, they’d probably say “Oh yeah! I remember that giant butterfly from my childhood!” I feel that some older audience members would recognize her since she’s had some exposure in America.

Unlike Rodan, Mothra is also very mystical in nature, and has a lot of lore from the Toho films that could be adapted into the MonsterVerse. 

But even with that said, the chances of a Mothra solo film happening are still very slim. Godzilla and Kong are household names, and based on the box office performance of G14, KSI, and GVK, I think it’s same to assume that future MonsterVerse films will be Godzilla and Kong-centric. 

However, that doesn’t mean Mothra and Rodan won’t show up as side characters. I think a less risky option for fleshing them out would be to make graphic novels that set up their roles in the next Godzilla film. Than if ever get a Godzilla 3, Mothra and Rodan can team up with Godzilla to fight another opponent (either Biollante or an original monster). To be honest, I’d be completely fine with that. I don’t really think they need solo movies to be properly fleshed out as characters.
