Last night on twitter I was musing with some fans about who might score Godzilla '16. Typically directors have a go-to person for this kind of thing: Spielberg to Williams. Nolan to Zimmer. In the Godzilla realm: Honda to Ifukube. Kaneko to Otani. Tezuka to Oshima.

It's not a rule, but more often than not directors stick to their previous composers. So who are the consistant composers for Anno and Higuchi? Well...

Anno's composer for his anime material has largely just been Shiro Sagisu. The thing is he doesn't always, and arguably rarely, use Sagisu for live-action stuff. Sagisu is mostly known for scoring everything Evangelion. Here's a good example of his work:

Now the because Sagisu has mostly been limited to anime by Anno, I didn't think he'd have a huge chance of scoring Godzilla '16.

Then I discovered that Higuchi's composer for the Attack on Titan movies is Shiro Sagisu!

Considering that both directors have worked with this guy, I feel like he's a shoe-in for Godzilla '16. This isn't confirmation, but I feel 65-70% sure this will be our guy.

If not, who would you like to score it? I wouldn't exactly cry if Otani or Oshima returned, but they've had their go at it. I think I want to hear something new. Personally, I'd like to hear the composer of the Attack on Titan anime have a crack at it, Hiroyuki Swano!

^I mean come on!

GMAN2887 - I know exactly what you mean! I had the pleasure of sitting down to watch the first season of Attack on Titan, and though the visuals were moving, it was Swano's score - the sweeping, beautiful compositions - that moved me most of all! The sense of tension and mystery he builds with what I have been told is a simple array of synthesizers (this is hear-say, so please correct me if I am wrong) truly gave me chills! I was brought to tears at certain points as well - though it is easy to make this girl cry! Regardless, I would definately cast my vote for Hiroyuki Swano; his music would certainly do Godzilla a great deal of justice! :)

Hiroyuki and Shiro are my two all time favorite anime/japanese composers. The music they make truly captivate and amaze me beyond compare. Yet, out of these two, i have to say i have to cast my vote on Hiroyuki Sawano. His scores on Attack on Titan, Guilty Crown and Sengoku Basara have marked a special place in my soft spot on amazing music, and just imagining him compose for GODZILLA would be the most grandeous thing EVER

my vote goes to Hiroyuki Sawano
