Title will be changed when Official title is released

Yes! This is the official Toho Godzilla 2016 discussion thread, to stop clutter, here you will discuss everything you have to say about the Revival of the Japanese Godzilla! It can be anything from, his design, to the plot of the film.

Here is what i have to say on certain questions: "What will the plot be about?" I think it will be a solo Godzilla film, maybe even a remake of 1954 since they have never done that before.

"What will Godzilla look like?"I think he will be broad and intimidating like Heisei, yet lean and Muscular like Final wars.

So thats my questions, you discuss anything you want about the film now! Power to the King!

Good grief.

@BIGBADBEN

I get that its your opinion but I think (Repeat I!) think legendary Godzilla will win because of his sheer size and strength.

Trying to find other Godzilla fans, Space fans, Alien fans, and Robot fans.

BigBadBen,
I don't know about an exact number of movies that are better than Godzilla '14-- Since I put the 2014 film somewhere in the middle of the pack I'd give Toho the benefit of the doubt with 12-15 films of superior craft, writing and creativity.

That being said, I've long grown bored of trying to list the series from greatest to least. They all start running together in specific blocks of quality somewhere and they become different enough that it's hard to compare. I like to think of Godzilla '14 as a movie hanging somewhere with the Kiryu films and Godzilla vs. Destoroyah. The Kiryu Saga, Destroyah and Godzilla '14 are all well loved for reasons people see on the surface, but they also have extremely damaging issues that yank them from being great movies.

Well, since you put it that way I see your point.

Very good point, BigBadBen:

The message of the early films was a major aspect of their greatness, and what made them so moving. The narrative in the early Toho Godzilla series, indeed, in their other scifi films as well, was integral to their beauty, like in the Mysterians.

Speaking of atomic heat rays: the one from Godzilla 1984 (Return of Godzilla) gets at least an honorable mention. I felt that the one in the Legendary film could have been more powerful. The one in Toho Godzilla 2016 should be to blast through things. I would like to see the dorsals light up, and then stay lit, like in Godzilla 2000 Millennium. And then: Boom! And, as BigBadBen said, the footsteps should thunder. That effect should be even more imposing given today's sound equipment. The theater should shake when Godzilla walks. Speaking of walking, Godzilla should move with purpose, like he's after something. At times, he seemed a little aimless in G'84. And he shouldn't be following birds. Godzilla should be obsessed with what he's angry at, and it should be reflected in his gait. After any initial confusion which may result from exposure to The Bomb, he should be a vehicle of destruction after that, unstoppable and relentless.

One more thing: the illuminated dorsals, like the ray, should be bluish-white when lit up, with that crackling, electrical sound like in GMK. And the illumination should be so bright, that it nearly turns night into day in the area it occurs. I feel the film could benefit, horror and danger-wise, from a way to measure or demonstrate the radiation caused by Godzilla's presence. I mean, Tsujimori should not have lived very long after riding Godzilla in Godzilla X Megaguirus. Hopefully with more production time, Toho can be more careful about things like this.

BigBadBen- Thats not entirely true, you see we haven't even seen Godzilla's true power yet your basing Toho's winning when 2014 hasn't even gotten a chance to show off his skills and from what we have seen so far he already is an incredible adversary. See your basing Toho winning off of a personal Bias, i have done the same but it has to be equally fair it cant just be that 94 owns 2014. I respect your opinion but 2014 has a very fair chance of winning against any Godzilla incarnation except burning..

Good grief.

Alas it seems i am trying to debate with hardcore OG's, maybe i should just go **Sniif Sniff** no respect for Godzilla 14 :(.

Good grief.

I guess I'm what you'd call a 'hardcore OG,' but, I liked the Legendary Godzilla, a lot. The filmmakers showed a lot of love and respect for the genre and the subject.

It's just that a lot of fans would like to see a new, traditional tokusatsu Godzilla made in Japan. That Toho is making a Godzilla film just seems so right.

So, I'm looking forward to both films. I will interesting to see what Legendary and Gareth Edwards do with King Ghidorah, Mothra and Rodan.

"See your basing Toho winning off of a personal Bias" GG, look man i am like Jamaal, Gman2887 and so many other "OG's" Fans. Personal opinion? Yes! But, it isn't just my opinion, i go by what abilities each of the monsters have, so in other words i also go with "Facts" I know you love G14, nothing wrong with that or you. :)

But the thing is, i have been a fan of the franchise for over 20 years now. That's why i continue to draw, help share what little knowledge i have, and help those out who want to furthur their knowledge. G14 may or may not have proven much yet, i am giving it a chance. As for know though G14 only has the power of the atomic ray like all other incarnations, but the one thing heisei godzilla has that G14 does not is the super regenative healing ability. As long as that remains a factor in heisei godzilla i do not see legendary godzilla ever stepping up with the heisei godzilla which is the same creature from 84-95.

@GG,

I'm not trying to sound rude nor bring you down. As for now though in my book, Legendary Godzilla is tough like the showa godzilla, who didn't need a healing factor to kick some kaiju a**.

Back to the topic though, Jamaal, yes we need to hear those thundering footsteps through out the movie.

Also Jamaal, I personally loved the thunder effect that the later heisei godzilla had in the 1991 film godzilla vs king ghidorah. His dorsal plates glowed and it seemed like a small fraction of it made a lightning effect. Pretty awesome in my book.

And yes, this movie may or may not have a message to carry along with it. The thing about most of the godzilla movies is that they had a message to carry along with it. For examples..

1. G54, message about the usage of H-bombs

2. Mothra vs Godzilla 1964, message about how good will triumph over evil (So to speak)

3. Godzilla vs Hedorah 1971, message about pollution

4. Son of Godzilla 1967, Godzilla happened to showcase parenting tools

5. The return of Godzilla 1984, message about the cold war

So, hopefully this new Toho Godzilla film will have some kind of meaning and message to go with it.

I think im an OG to, i have been a fan since 94.

BBB- I understand, but 2014 does not only have the ray. He unlike most incarnations, really melee's he gets up close bite's, pushes, throws, and even slams with his tail. He even used his Atomic Breath in strategical ways which hasn't happend since the Showa era.

Good grief.

^I think you often forget that the first godzilla film to have biting, clawing, and pushing. Godzilla raids again 1955 was the first film to do that. I get your point though, i am actually glad they went back to that in Legendary's film. Personally though, i didn't mind the later showa films which had a WWE style of fighting, pretty fun movies in between the whole series.

Also i wanted to say one thing on the subject of, "Heisei has taken on opponents twice his size and taller, 14 stands no chance." Those opponents were not equal to him, by equal i mean they fought back but in a way that if he grabbed onto them they would just sit there, sort of like a plot device.

Whereas 2014 will not allow himself to be picked up, at his full strength i even bet 14 could pick up Heisei. 2014 would be biting and clawing 94 all the way, and as we have seen Heisei has never been a close up melee fighter, and before the hate comes in i mean when the opponent isn't just sitting there im talking about someone who is fighting with all his might blocking attacks and tackling him. And that is exactly Godzilla 14!

Good grief.

^That's another thing that needs to be brought up, Showa was all melee, Heisei relied on shear power, and the millenium was a bit of a cross between the other two eras.

I think a cool social issue the new movie could address would be the growing technology dependence Japan seems to be going through. It seems a group in Japan are weary of the possible negatives it brings.

What better way to show how small technology is than a giant monster that is able to wipeout communication, ect on a country wide scale similar to the MUTO.
