Directorial Direction for Sequel

So with the sequel announced and now the monsters we know that are going to be in it.......my question is...do you think that Gareth will be forced, either by script or studio pressure, to change his directorial approach to the sequel (less buildup, more action, fewer glimpses) because of the amount of monsters in the movie? Dont get this misinterpreted, i loved the movie and the way it was directed, it worked  briiliantly, however, the general audience had a more negative view around it because godzilla was not in it as much as they would have liked.  An audience's opinion can change the way a movie is made....take a look as spiderman 3....venom was not supposed to be in it at all, but the studio forced the director and writers to add him because the fans wanted it.  That being said, if they hear a more negative response that people want more godzilla/fighting, the studio may make gareth and the writers change their approach to the movie.

Me personally, I  believe the studio may make him change his approach from the backlash general population gave because of the 'lack' of godzilla in the movie...and personally I believe it would be hard as hell to tackle this movie with the same approach because of the sheer # and quality of the monsters (classic tohos)............

What are you opinions?  and please dont make this a discussion/argument about whether he should have been in it more or not in the first movie, stay on topic

Well, we know that Mothra, Rodan, and King Ghidorah will be in the sequel.

I dont really see why people complain about G14 not having enough screentime. The Trex from JP had only about a minute more than G14 in total screentime. Im pretty sure there were similar doubts at the time like people saying "well I wish the Trex was there for longer". Probably more build up for Ghidorah and other mownsters but we will have morre G and probably not as much character backstory

Remember that chap, I forget his name, he climbed Everest without any oxygen, came down nearly dead. They asked him, they said, "Why did you go up there to die?" He said, "I didn't, I went up there to live."

For me, where Gareth REALLY succeeds like no other director does is in relevance between us and the creatures. Between his films Monsters and Godzilla, the sense of scale is so real and incredibly stunning. As for the pacing regarding the monsters, I gaurantee he will NEED to change. Only SLIGHTLY. We all know what Godzilla looks like now, and we all had that build up in the first movie. He and the production simply need to create a story that revoles around the intensity and dread behind four titans roaming earth while giving each of them good screen time. Gareth can still do this in an artistic way!

Please NO MORE comparisons to JP, Jaws or Alien! JP is not about the T-Rex. He may have been the crown jewel, but the movie wasn't about him. There were many more good dino sequences in JP. The T-Rex was one part of a whole. When the title character is in his own movie for under 10 minutes and a good portion of that is parts of his body (mostly fins), cut-aways, and he for the most part doesn't really do anything when he's on-screen, I'm going to take issue with that.

Think about it. Other than the fight at the end, which was at night and cut away from frequently, what does Godzilla do really? What Godzilla scenes stand out for you and what was he doing? The bridge scene was nice, but what else?

It's called kepping the audiencwanting more. You want more Godzilla? Then what Gareth did worked. Also have you not seen most Godzilla fights? Most movies will have the big finale fight but cut away from it several times.

@Mecha Rodan - Yes, I've seen and have several Godzilla movies. The difference between the other movies and this one is that when Godzilla is onscreen, they made it count.

And every other movie does not just have a final battle. Godzilla generally appears in other scenes prior, and they make his appearances count, whether he's wraecking havoc, battling the military, or having a skirmish with his antagonist.

Again, other than the final battle, in this 2hr, 3min movie, what other Godzilla scenes stood out for you and what did Godzilla do that made them stand out?

Yes, I wanted more Godzilla. In THIS movie.

When Godzilla first apeared, when Godzilla apperes in San Francisco, and when Godzlla roars at the end. I guess we have different tastes in our movies but the only part I wishws different was the airport scene. There could have been the short battle and then we ld see it again with the kid watching it.

If they want a new approach they wouldnt have hired Gareth in the first place. With the first movie they knew what Gareth was gonna give, we knew what he was gonna give us and the sequel will be no different im sure. It will be the same approach. Take it or dont, thats how he directs.

I was one of the huge supporters of Gareths approach to Godzilla, and I think with the FIRST film it worked. However, after the events of the first movie Godzilla is already out there. The cats out of the bag and so you have no real reason to keep hiding him. If he hides Rodan, Mothra etc. I'll be fine but honestly I'll be annoyed if Godzilla is still heavily teased after being revealed.
